How to read this

Fuel cost, consumption and surcharge revenue come from lines 1, 2 and 4 of the quarterly form. The reported amounts are in thousands; the figures below are expanded into dollars and gallons without adding precision.

Each dot represents one quarter. The filled dot marks the selected quarter, and the number above each line is its exact value. Click or tap a dot, use the quarter selector, or focus a chart and use the arrow keys to move through time. Home and End select the first and last quarters.

Percentages compare the selected value with either the previous quarter or the same quarter last year: (selected value − comparison value) ÷ comparison value × 100. A positive or negative change does not, by itself, mean better or worse performance.

History begins in 2025 Q1, so prior-year values are unavailable for 2025. Changes are also unavailable when the comparison crosses a reporting-series transition. Lines use their own vertical scales to reveal patterns, so similar slopes can represent different amounts of change.

The official form labels every amount in thousands. Dollar lines remain thousand nominal U.S. dollars and consumption remains thousand gallons in normalized outputs.

Carrier surcharge programs differ. Surcharge revenue alone is not a universal measure of pricing fairness or operating efficiency.

The fuel snapshot leaves a gap at the SOO-KCSR-to-CPKC reporting-series transition and withholds changes across it. Other forms identify CPKC throughout this period; their source labels and boundaries are handled separately.

GTC is Canadian National’s U.S. reporting scope. Each form describes the STB reporting entity, which may differ from the full corporate railroad. Amounts are nominal, not adjusted for inflation. Railroad size differs, so totals are not performance rankings.

Downloads and method

Two forms, two explicit measurement boundaries

Fuel files retain their own reporting identities. CPKC fuel lines and calculated changes do not cross the SOO/KCSR-to-CPKC transition; capital expenditures use their separate source rules.
